Hello June! – My Writing and Reading Goals

This month, I accomplished many things. While they were not necessarily in the realm of writing and reading, at least I’m making progress with my life, right?

I know that I mentioned in last month’s wrap-up that I am SO ready for summer and that hasn’t changed. I live in PA, so all it does in May is rain. I don’t know why I expected anything different.

Looking ahead, I can already tell that June has many wonderful things in store for me, including new writing and reading goals. I’m excited to share them with you today!

So, let’s get started!

Goodbye May

This year, I was blessed with the opportunity to begin substitute teaching for the month of May to jumpstart my career as an educator! My state passed a law that allows education majors with at least 60 college credits to substitute teach for 20 days with an emergency certification.

Substitute teaching was an incredible experience, considering how difficult it is to teach classroom-management in a college course. Tossing me in a classroom with 20+ children will surpass a lesson with several chapters in a textbook on classroom-management any day.

As for my writing goals, I didn’t quite complete my second draft of my WIP. I still have approximately 13 chapters left to edit before I cross that finish line. However, I planned the rest of the rewrite so I know exactly where I’m going with it!

I’m a panster by nature, so this is an accomplishment in itself.

I planned to write 8 blog posts for the month of May and clocked in at 5, counting this one. That’s more than half, so I’m content.

I also planned to take myself on a writing date every Friday, totaling 4 writing dates for the month. I stood myself up for two of them. Whoops.

My TBR list consisted of four novels for this month and I only finished one. You can read my book review of “Sadie” by Courtney Summers in my last blog post!

I started “The Thousandth Floor”, but I had trouble getting into it. I think moving on to another book may do me some good this month. I still intend to read the books that I planned to read for May, but I still need to purchase two of them (so, there’s that).

Overall, I feel as though May wasn’t terrible in terms of my life goals but it definitely could’ve gone better with my writing and reading goals. Which is why I’m excited to welcome June!

Why I bought it:

  1. Three sisters competing for the crown with their extraordinary powers? Um, YES

  2. Are the characters powerful? Yes. Are they flawed? Let’s find out.

  3. I enjoyed other books centered around competitions, such as The Selection Series.

Why I bought it:

  1. I’m dipping my toes into the world of adult fiction

  2. As mentioned before, I love a good mystery

  3. Who doesn’t love a story set in a bookstore?

Bonus: Life Goals!

This month, I’ll be working at a day care for the first two weeks. Then, I’m traveling all the way to New Haven, CT to start my job as a camp counselor for gifted students at YALE!

It’s so unreal to me that I’ll be staying on campus at an Ivy League school for three weeks and being paid to do something that I love! I’ve been a camp counselor before and can’t get enough of it.

So, wish me luck on this new adventure and I’ll be sure to provide updates! 🙂

Let me know in the comments how your May went and what your writing/reading goals are for June! 🙂
